The coffee Alirio Perilla is part of the La Palma y El Tucan Neighbors and Crops program. For this project, a highly trained team of La Palma y El Tucan’s pickers picks the ripe cherries and chooses which of these cherries will be used. The processing of the coffee takes place in the La Palma y El Tucan facilities, in a new washing station within a farm with perfect ergonomy. This particular processing station includes elevated beds for the drying of the coffee, uses solar energy in order to save resources and has an up to date mechanical drum for the final drying of the coffee.
Don Alirio is 50 years old and has been producing coffee for 20 years. His farm, El Arrachal, is located in Buenavista village. El Arrachal has an extension of 3 hectares but just 1 hectare is planted with Castillo coffee plants. His parents were traditional farmers and he continues with this tradition.
Before becoming a part of the Neighbors & Crops program, Don Alirio used to sell his coffee to local buyers at cooperatives in the nearest town.
Since he joined the program Don Alirio no longer has to pick and the process by himself and now he can spend more time with his family.
La Palma y El Tucan has created a very innovative lab, in which the people of the farm conduct the necessary quality controls required in every stage.
